The Philips M5071A Adult SMART Pads Cartridge is designed specifically for use with the Philips HeartStart OnSite AED, ensuring fast and reliable response during sudden cardiac arrest emergencies. Each cartridge includes a set of pre-connected adhesive electrode pads housed in a replaceable, snap-in plastic cartridge that allows for quick installation into the AED unit—no complicated setup or special tools required.
The SMART Pads are “smart” because they communicate with the defibrillator to deliver therapy customized to the patient’s needs. Once the pads are applied, the HeartStart OnSite AED assesses the patient’s heart rhythm and determines whether a shock is needed. These pads are intended for use on adults and children over 55 pounds (25 kg) or over 8 years old.
Designed with ease of use in mind, the cartridge features a built-in red handle. During an emergency, the rescuer simply pulls down on the handle to open the pad package, allowing for fast, intuitive access without delays. This simple pull-tab design helps bystanders and trained responders act quickly and confidently during high-stress situations.
Each SMART Pads cartridge has a shelf life of approximately 2 years from the date of manufacture, and Philips recommends always having a spare adult cartridge stored with the AED to ensure you’re prepared for multiple emergencies or a second rescue. Replacement is also necessary after each use, even if a shock was not delivered.
